LDSchick Advice Column

Advice for teens! Just send in your question to talk2me@ldschick.com and I'll try to answer it as soon as I can. It can be about church stuff, or girl stuff. Leave your name (real or fake) and I'll post it and my answer here.

How do you deal with a favorite child? I mean my brother is exactly that and its so hard! One little thing I do that makes him mad I get in serious trouble.
~Andrea

Well you should definitely talk to your parents about it and also your bother. And in the mean time make positively sure that it isn't really you that's the problem. Even if you're fairly positive it isn't. If it persists and borders neglect or abuse, then talk to your bishop.

My stake president just anounced there will be boundry changes made to our stake. I have a lot of friends in my ward and don't know many people outside of it. I'm really scared of being in a new ward. How can I cope?
~KW

First off, you don't know for sure that you'll be separated from your friends, so don't stress about it. And second, after the boundries officially move, be happy about it. Even if you have to pretend. Think about the positive: Making new friends, meeting cute boys, getting away from annoying boys; ect. Pretty soon you'll love your new ward, and if you look happy at church, your new ward will like you too.

I know what the word of wisdom tells us to drink and not to drink, but earlier this week I had a sip of hot chocolate at my friends house. I said, "Mm, this is good!"
My friend said, "Yep. My mom makes it good because she sprinkles coffee grinds on the top." I stopped drinking it, but should I have to repent because of what I didn't know I drank?
~Guilty for No Reason

It isn't your fault. However, in the future you should tell your non-LDS friends your standards. I'd like to compare your story to the reverse: what if someone snuck away from the house to get drunk, only to realize he just drank a virgin piña colada. Should he repent? He didn't actually break the word of wisdom. But he meant to. You didn't. So don't feel too bad, just be more careful next time.

The Friendship Basket: Fill up a basket with things that you like, or things that have to do with you. Then have a drawing for who gets your basket, so they can bring it back with things that have to do with them and bring it back next week. This is a great get-to-know-you activity for new wards and just a fun on-going tradition.

Personal Progress Help
Everyone needs help sometimes. Here's some things you can do:

1. Talk to your mom or older sister. Chances are they did the program once, so they'll know what to do.

2. Ask your ward's personal progress leader. Talk to them on Sunday or look up her phone number in the stake directory.

3. Try these web sites for ideas:
